Welcome back to our behind-the-scenes series at Unity Online, where we spotlight the remarkable individuals who power our team. After a brief hiatus, we’re thrilled to kick off our first Q&A session of 2024, beginning with Nathan, our dynamic Paid Marketing Consultant.

With a wave of new faces joining us this year, it felt like the perfect time to revive this tradition. In this special feature, we delve into Nathan’s life beyond his professional achievements. From his hobbies to the personal stories that have shaped him, this Q&A offers a unique opportunity to discover the backgrounds of the people behind Unity Online’s success. Join us as we get to know Nathan, unveiling the passions and experiences that drive him both inside and outside of work.

Tell us about your average day at Unity

My average day at Unity involves doing a base check of all the paid media accounts as soon as I get in to make sure everything is in order. We then have a Paid team stand up to establish priorities and then present these to the wider marketing team in another stand up meeting directly after. From this we are able to establish any critical tasks that need to get done that day.

Once those critical tasks have been completed I’ll move onto my workflow of clients for the day, checking in on clients performance of a wide range of paid campaigns and looking for optimisations I can make to generate a better ROI for our clients. I’ll then repeat this process while enjoying a free fully stocked drinks fridge while making some of the best pun related jokes you’ve ever seen.

Lunchtime is normally a nice walk around the lake to get my steps in (yes I’m that guy with a step goal) then it’s lunch and back to it with a nice early finish at 4pm as we have the benefit of flexible working.

Before working at Unity Online, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

When I was 16 I worked as an off road go kart track safety marshall which meant I got to spend my weekends powersliding around dirt tracks.

Who would be your dream client and why?

Dream Unity client would be Surreal for me as their brand offers something fun and different. They have found a way to find a gap in the market for protein cereal but at the same time by being outrageous with their marketing campaigns have made their brand all about fun and pushing the boundaries of what they can get away with.

How do you embody the Unity team values?

I try to embody the Unity team values by showing extreme care and compassion in every task I do. Trying to act how I would if the clients money was my own personal income.

What are three things you’d love to learn this year?

  • I’d love to gain a more indepth knowledge of GA4 and SEO so that we can more effectively work with Paid media and SEO.
  • I’d love to try a few more Paid media ad platforms like Reddit
  • To be able to deliver some more effective seminar talks at Suffolk University

What does true leadership mean to you?

Leading from the front, when a task needs doing regardless of the level of the task diving in head first to help your teammates.

What are your hopes for our industry?

I’d like to hope marketing agencies become more reliable as when a client has a bad agency experience it doesn’t just harm that client it hurts the industry as a whole as they are then reluctant to work with agencies again. I want to leave all clients whether they are a success with us or feel they would be a better fit with someone else to understand the level of care and attention that has gone into our work to try and help them achieve their result.

You’re organising the Unity Christmas party- where do you send us?

I’d rent out the viewing platform of the shard so that we could enjoy the best view of London with the best food, drink and people the UK has to offer in the same room.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Unity Online, whose job would you want?

Easy, I’d switch with Alex, how hard can running an agency really be 😉
