Can you describe a typical day on the job?

Is there such a thing as a typical day? Every day is diverse as it completely depends on the clients you are working on that day. Our days start with a Digital Marketing team stand-up, which I find so helpful with getting aligned on what people are working that day. It’s also a great opportunity to brainstorm any ideas you may have or need help with. Then we carry on with our campaigns for each client, this can be doing a full audit, keyword research, content, strategy reviews and many more things!

Why did you choose SEO as your career? Who or what inspired you?

I first started off as an Office Manager and then started to dabble in AdOps which kick started my career in Marketing. This then led me to run my own ad campaigns for various big clients and is what I wanted to get back into after moving to Suffolk. I then started my role at Unity Online as a Marketing Executive with the idea to go into Paid Marketing again, but as I tried SEO, I realised that this is really what I want to be doing. Although I will always have a soft spot for Paid Marketing, SEO is where I get the most satisfaction. My Manager has inspired me a lot, he is incredibly knowledgeable, and listening to his ideas on how to run campaigns really inspires you!

What would you say are three key personality aspects or skills that make for a good SEO Executive?

Being organised, inquisitive and driven.

What have you learned about yourself through the work that you do?

There is nothing you can’t do. You can learn anything and you can adapt to an ever-changing Google!

What’s been your best moments while doing your work?

Really cringe, but I’ve had a lot! Building new pages for clients, re-learning HTML & CSS, which work well and the client likes, winning the Star of the Month award, being told I’m doing a good job. Lots!

How do you keep going when things get challenging?

I stand up from my desk, speak to my colleagues and then I am better! Honestly, though, they’ve helped a lot when I have struggled, if it’s an idea, an annoying change on a website that I can’t work out how to do or just personal things. They have great ideas, help me fix issues and make me laugh! Also, obviously, my Manager has helped a lot, he has an answer for almost every issue!

Are there any common misconceptions about being an SEO Executive?

I’m not too sure there are any. Maybe that there isn’t much to it? There really is and it’s a lot of things to juggle at once, it’s challenging, and you must know what you are doing in order to get things right. It’s very easy to think that it isn’t important for your business but it’s integral to be seen!

What advice would you give to young people considering pursuing a career in this industry?

There’s always more to learn and it is ever-changing. You must be adaptable and eager to learn, you never know everything.
