Ensure your customers feel secure with an SSL certified website

Everyone wants to feel that their data is secure when using the internet, whether they’re shopping, scrolling through a social feed, or browsing your site to find more about your services and products. Chrome currently highlights the presence of an SSL certification, which authenticates the domain and ensures that their connection is secure, meaning privacy and data will be protected.

Although some users may not consciously be aware of this certification, Google has been taking steps to identify insecure, non-HTTPS, sites. Today they announced they will be letting users know explicitly when a site is not secure. With the release of Chrome 68 in July, non-HTTPS sites will now look like this in a user’s browser:

This new interface helps to ensure all users understand when a site doesn’t have the necessary SSL certificate to make it, and their data, secure.

Users are already used to seeing the “Not Secure” warning when a site is displaying on https when there is not an SSL certificate in place.

However, the highlighting of an insecure site may lead to a significant amount of users being reluctant to share their details on a contact form or to place an order – or causing them to leave upon arrival.

Regardless of whether they are blogs, lead generation, or eCommerce sites there is an ever increasing number of sites which are now secured.

  • Over 68% of Chrome traffic on both Android and Windows is now protected
  • Over 78% of Chrome traffic on both Chrome OS and Mac is now protected
  • 81 of the top 100 sites on the web use HTTPS by default
